2004-2008

From 2004 to 2005, The Icelandic Love Corporation: Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir and Eirún Sigurðardóttir performed and exhibited sculptures and photographs under the constellation name Intimacy Circus: at the Nordic Excellence, Stockholm, Sweden - IJs/Ice, Museum Dhont Dhanens, Ghent, Belgium - Motel Mozaique Festival, Rotterdam - Tivoli, LA Art Museum, Hveragerði, Iceland and for their solo exhibition at Jack the Pelican Presents, New York. There they also performed in McCarren Park. Photos by Elisabet Davidsdottir.

The sculptures and photographs of Intimacy Circus have, a rather calm and clean aura while the performance was more on the gory side of life.

The Intimacy Circus performance is a remix of three performances: The Kiss Performance, The Angel Performance (the two first ILC performances), and Crystal Rain, a collaboration with Ragnar Kjartansson.

These are the main ingredients of Intimacy Circus: Kissing. Cutting off the wings. Celebration.Mayhem

In 2008 ILC performed the legendary performance, Intimacy Circus, for the last time at the Frieze Art Fair, London in the reconstructed Reykjavík bar, Sirkus, an art installation by Kling&Bang Gallery. Photos by Bjarni Grímsson

The performance, which is a remix of several early performances done by The Corporation was appropriate for the occasion as the inspiration for some of its elements is interwoven in many ways with the spirit of the bar Sirkus itself and it’s fate.

“Sacrifices are made willingly, in a gory manner, bringing on a necessary catharsis and a new beginning. This is done with a feeling of uncontrolled delinquent joy. A beautiful disaster.” - ILC,
