Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir
Visual artist working with painting, drawing, performance art and other mediums, focusing on visible and invisible forces at play in the world. Her last exhibitions The Valley of Inner Beauty and We Become Color evolved around serotonin, oxytocin, dopamine and other chemicals of the brain, as well as love, silk, fossil fuels, currencies and the digital sphere.
In 2022-23 she held a research position at the Reykjavík Art Museum, curating an exhibition and publication on the lifetime achivement of visual artist Hildur Hákonardóttir (1938), as part of the ongoing research project on the role of women in Icelandic art within the Reykjavík Art Museum.
A founding member of Gjörningaklúbburinn / The Icelandic Love Corporation, an art collective active with its original members (Eirún Sigurðardóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir and Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir) 1996-2016. The Icelandic Love Corporation has exhibited widely at home and internationally and their work can be found in major public and private collections.
2016-2021 she was Dean of the Department of Fine Art, Iceland University of the Arts. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and Pratt University, New York and holds an MA degree in Philosophy from the University of Iceland.
Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir lives and works in Reykjavík and has her studio in Grandagarður.
